Come back into balance.

Reiki is spiritually guided life-force energy, offered through gentle, intentional touch. I hold the space; the Reiki knows where to go. In Bothell, wherever you are, and for the animals you love.

What Reiki is

Life-force energy, guided by something wiser than either of us.

Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese healing practice founded by Mikao Usui in 1922. The word joins rei — universal, spiritual wisdom — with ki, the life-force energy that moves through every living thing. When ki flows freely we feel well, clear, and whole. When it is depleted or blocked, we feel it as stress, pain, heaviness, or a sense of being not quite ourselves.

In a session I don't generate anything of my own; I have been attuned to act as a channel, and Reiki flows through my hands to wherever it is needed most. It has its own intelligence. My work is to ground myself, set a clear intention, hold a quiet and sacred space, and let it move — through body, emotions, mind, and spirit. What you feel is often deep warmth and calm, and what follows is balance.

Reiki works alongside the care of your doctor or veterinarian — never in place of it. I don't diagnose, and I don't promise cures; I offer Reiki, and your whole self does the healing.

Your first session

Nothing to prepare. Come as you are.

  1. 01

    Arrive & set an intention

We sit and talk for a few minutes — how you're feeling, what's been heavy, what you're hoping to release or invite. Together we set an intention for the session. It doesn't need to be tidy or profound.

  2. 02

    Get comfortable

You lie fully clothed on a padded table, warm under a blanket, shoes off. There is nothing to do from here on but breathe and receive.

  3. 03

    The session

I center myself, open as a channel, and move through a series of hand positions from head to feet — resting lightly on or just above the body, as you prefer. Where the energy feels stagnant or depleted, I stay as long as it asks. Most people feel warmth, tingling, or a heavy, floating calm; many drift off. Emotions sometimes surface and pass. All of it is welcome.

  4. 04

    Close & integrate

I close the session with gratitude and give you a few slow minutes to come back. We talk about what you noticed and what I sensed. Then water, and a gentle rest of the day if you can manage it — the energy keeps working after you leave.

Reiki for animals

Offered, never imposed. Your animal leads.

Animals are exquisitely sensitive to energy — some say cats invented Reiki. They don't wonder whether it works; they simply come toward it when they need it, take what they want, and walk away when they're done. So I don't 'treat' an animal. I settle into a quiet, meditative presence, offer Reiki into the space between us, and let the animal decide whether, how, and for how long to receive it.

That is also why I offer animal sessions at a distance. Cats especially prefer it: no stranger in the house, no being held still. At our appointed time your animal can nap, wander, or watch the birds; you're welcome to sit with them or go about your day. Afterward I send you a written note about what I sensed and how the session unfolded.

About Kat

Hi, I'm Kat.

I'm a Reiki practitioner in Bothell, Washington. [ORIGIN — Kathy's own story of how she came to Reiki: what she was carrying, the first session or class that changed things, and what made her keep going.] What began as something I received became something I couldn't help but offer.

[TRAINING — level, system/lineage, teacher, and year, in Kathy's words.] Reiki is a daily practice for me, not only a session I give — I treat myself each morning and try to live by the five precepts, one day at a time. My own cat was my first patient teacher: cats sense the energy the moment you begin, and they never pretend. Working with animals as well as people feels like the most natural thing in the world.

The five precepts

Mikao Usui asked his students to hold five simple intentions — not as rules, but as a way of living, renewed each morning.

Just for today,

  • I will not be angry.
  • I will not worry.
  • I will be grateful.
  • I will do my work honestly.
  • I will be kind to every living thing.

— Mikao Usui, founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What does Reiki actually do?

Reiki restores flow. Life-force energy moves through all of us, and stress, grief, illness, and simple overwork can leave it depleted or stuck. Reiki flows to wherever it's needed — physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual — and helps your system return to balance so your own healing can happen. It isn't a cure and I don't promise outcomes; I can promise care, intention, and a session held with full attention.

What will I feel?

Most people feel warmth from my hands, tingling, a pleasant heaviness or floating, and a calm that goes deeper than ordinary rest. Some see colors behind closed eyes; some feel emotion rise and pass; many fall asleep. Occasionally someone feels very little during the session and notices the shift over the following days. All of these are Reiki working.

Do I have to believe in it?

No. Reiki isn't a belief system or a religion — it's an experience, and it flows whether or not you're sure about it. People of every faith and of none receive Reiki. Openness helps, the way it helps with anything; certainty isn't required. Come curious.

Is this massage?

No. There's no manipulation of muscle, no oils, and you stay fully clothed. My hands rest lightly on you or hover just above; the work is energetic, not physical. Many people find it more deeply restful than massage precisely because nothing is being done to the body — only offered to it.

Will you touch me?

Only as much as you're comfortable with. Traditional positions rest the hands lightly on the head, shoulders, torso, knees, and feet, but Reiki flows just as fully with hands held above the body. Tell me your preference at the start, and change your mind whenever you like.

How does distance Reiki work?

Reiki isn't limited by space; the training that opens distance work is part of Second Degree Reiki, and practitioners have offered it this way for a century. We agree on a time. Just before it I'll call or message briefly, then you lie down somewhere quiet — or simply go on with your day — while I hold the full session from here, exactly as I would with you on the table. Afterward we talk, or I write you a note about what came through. People are often surprised at how much they feel.

How does an animal session work?

You send me your animal's name, a photo, and what's been going on, and we pick a time when they're not eating or playing. At that time I settle into meditation and offer Reiki; your animal takes as much or as little as they choose, from wherever they are. You don't need to hold them still or even be home. Afterward I'll email you what I sensed. If your animal declines that day — it happens, and it's their right — we simply reschedule.

Is Reiki medical or veterinary treatment?

No. Reiki is a complementary practice: it works alongside the care of your doctor, therapist, or veterinarian and never replaces it. I don't diagnose, prescribe, or advise on treatment. Please keep your medical and veterinary care exactly as it is — and let Reiki support the whole of you around it.

What should I do afterward?

Drink plenty of water, rest if you can, and go gently for the remainder of the day. The energy continues to settle for a day or two; occasionally emotions or old tiredness surface briefly before they clear. That's release, and it passes. Reach out anytime if you'd like to talk it through.

How do I pay or reschedule?

You'll see payment options when you book. Life happens — give 24 hours' notice to reschedule and we're all good. For animal sessions, if your animal isn't in the mood at our time, there's no charge to move it.
